It is with loving thoughts and great sadness that the family of the late Gertrude Jean Batstone announces her peaceful passing on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 61, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her mother, Emily Batstone; daughter, Denise (Marshall) Horne; son, Jeffrey (Catherine) Boland; granddaughters Arya and Audrey; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Gertie was predeceased by her father Frederick Batstone. The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to her aunts Rosena Warford and Angela (James) Batstone; cousin Doreen (Ernie) Hann; and sister-in-law Uriel (Maurice) Boland for all their love and support during this difficult year. Thank you to Dr. Desiree Dunn, Dr. Nicola Penney and the entire palliative care nursing staff. The kindness and support you provided will never be forgotten. As per Gertie’s wishes, a cremation has taken place and family and friends may visit Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Saturday, December 28th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gertie’s name can be made to the palliative care unit of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital.
