James Amos Trueman
James Amos Trueman, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2013 at Gables Lodge after a brief illness. Born on October 16th, 1924, to Walter and Delia Trueman, James grew up in East Amherst, and later took over the family farm. With his loving wife Dorothy, raising five children, running the family farm, and later working at Dunlaps Hardware, James always took time to be involved in his community.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge, was active in the Sir Charles Tupper Home and School Association and was a member of the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the church council and a church trustee for Trinity St. Stephen’s United Church. He helped with the Food Bank of the church and delivered Meals on Wheels. In later years he was a member of the church men’s group and Friends Unlimited.
The loves of his life were his wife Dorothy and their children. He and Dorothy spent many happy times square dancing with the Cumberland Twirlers Club and enjoyed travelling together in their retirement. He also enjoyed spending time at their cottage at Amherst Shore with their family and friends. He was very proud of his family and took great delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Delia (Gilroy) Trueman, sister Kathleen Atkinson, wife Dorothy (Fowler) Trueman.
He is survived by his sister Marion McCormack, Lower Sackville NS, his children Ann (Creelman) MacArthur of Windsor NS, Allan (Paula) Trueman, Miramichi NB, Karen (Manfred) Debertin, St. Stephen NB, Kathy (Ian) Naylor, Amherst and David (Louise) Trueman, Fredericton, grandchildren Shawn, Wendy, Molly, Megan, and Mark, Michael and Allan, David, Heather, and Scott, Matthew and great grandchildren, Joshua, Adam, Laura and Ewen.
His remains are under the care of Furlong – Jones Funeral Home.
There will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 2:00 p.m. at Trinity St. Stephens United Church, Rev. Carolyn MacLeod officiating. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship.
Donations may be made in his memory to Trinity St. Stephens United Church, the local food bank or a charity of your choice.
