CROWELL, RUSSELL - Russell Hunter Crowell, 80, of Fredericton passed away on January 4, 2014 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Russell was born in Sweet’s Corner, NS to Charles and Eleanor (Hunter) Crowell on Sept 29, 1933. He attended high school in Bridgewater and graduated in 1952. He went on to earn a degree in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University where he received the Governor General’s Medal as the top student in his graduating class. He worked as a Pharmacist, in the Bridgewater area, for a number of years before moving to Fredericton where he was employed by K-Mart, the DECH and Shoppers Drug Mart. His professional career was ended in 1991 when he suffered a head injury during an assault while serving as a volunteer pharmacist for CUSO in St. Lucia, WI. In his later years he worked as a personal care worker for Bayshore Health Care where his work was greatly appreciated by his many clients. He was involved in his professional associations and did volunteer work for the Community Kitchen. He was very athletic and enjoyed golf, tennis, badminton and curling. His favorite activities in later years were gardening and Bridge. Russell was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Shirley (Wilkie) Crowell; a brother, Terry Junior (JR) Crowell; and a sister, Joan Tumblin. Russell is survived by his partner, Clifford Jagoe of Fredericton; his son, Brad Crowell (Cindy), Middle Sackville, NS; his son, Kevin Crowell (Marsha), Hampton, NB and his daughter, Terri-Lynn Reed (Tony) Scotch Lake Road, Keswick, NB. He is also survived by his grand children: Chelsey Crowell, Katie Crowell, Cory Crowell, Brianne Reed and Brandon Reed. He is survived by one sister, Winnie (Crowell) Hoyt, New Maryland, NB, and various nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home Chapel, 160 York Street, Fredericton, on Wednesday, January 8th, 2014 at 2:00 PM followed by a gathering of friends and refreshments. The ceremony will be conducted by Rev. Ellen Beairsto of Wilmot United Church. Interment will take place later in the spring at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
