MacGREGOR, SCOTT - It is with great sadness that family and friends announce the passing of Scott Reid MacGregor ("Skip") born March 1, 1951, formerly of Riverview, NB. Scott was visiting two of his children in Alberta when he had a sudden cardiac event on December 27, 2013. He remained in hospital in Calgary until his death on January 1, 2014. Scott was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou (Brennan) MacGregor, his parents Harry and Phyllis MacGregor and his sister Elaine Taylor. He is survived by his children; Allyson MacGregor (Stewart Laing) of Calgary, AB, Scott R. MacGregor of Sylvan Lake, AB and Catherine MacGregor (Mark Gray) of Riverview, NB, his granddaughter, Brenna Gray and step-grandson Corey Gray also of Riverview and his special companion, Jeannette Roy of Fredericton, NB. Scott is also survived by his brothers Roger (Margery) of Ivy Lea, ON and Donald (Sylvia) of Riverview, NB his brothers-in-law, Bill Brennan of Edmonton, AB and Joe Brennan of Chatham, NB and several nieces and nephews. Scott graduated from Riverview High School in 1969. He played most sports in high school, but excelled in golf. As a youngster he won Provincial Championships, tournaments and club titles. Always the entertainer, in school he performed Rumpelstiltskin as the lead character. After high school he continued his education, first at Mount Allison University and then at the University of New Brunswick Law School. He continued to excel at academics (and sometimes entertainment), graduating in 1976. Scott practised law in Moncton, Salisbury and Riverview from 1976 to 2000. He had a busy general practice, but one which allowed him time to be an active and proud father coaching sports teams, leading family outings and always running the BBQ. He returned to Fredericton in 2000 as Chairman of the Assessment and Planning Appeal Board, a position he worked hard at and enjoyed. Scott was a long-time member of the Conservative Party and Elks Club.
Scott is resting at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton with visitation on Wednesday January 8 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 9th 2014 from Bishop’s Funeral Home Chapel at 11 AM with Father Bill Brennan officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Fredericton City Club, 830 Hanwell Road, Fredericton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the SPCA or a charity of the donor's choice.
