Dad was the son of Frederick (Fred ) O'Neill (WW1 veteran) and Theresa (Tess) O'Neill nee Kent. Beloved father of Ed O'Neill (June), Beverly O'Neill (Paddy), Patricia O'Neill, Rennie O'Neill (Sonia), Christine O'Neill (Ed) Theresa Hayward (David), Mary Hamilton (Paul), Michelle Ralph (Curtis), Goldie Thompson (Regan). Predeceased by his first wife Mary nee Lahey and second wife Elizabeth (Betty) nee Kelly, and by son Douglas (Dougie), and brother Donald (Don). Dad is survived by sisters Phyllis and Lorraine O'Neill and brothers Rudolph (Dolph) and Olaf O'Neill. Fond memories are shared by his grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad lived his life to the fullest which was full of integrity, ambition, knowledge and love for his family. He was one who would light up the room whenever he entered it. He loved his sports especially hockey, curling, figure skating and Olympics. He followed them all especially his beloved Leafs. Dad's ambition started very young in life helping in the family super market, The Blue Puttee in Lance Cove named after his fathere's WW1 regiment. From there he went on to many other aspirations such as studying and training at the Demonstration Farm in what is now called Mount Pearl. He owned and operated a poultry house with 2000 laying hens, he built and worked his own small farm and raised some pigs. He loved his horses and was proud of some of his horse drawn rigs. He later worked in the Bell Island mines and after the shut down he went on to become a master mechanic for some of the biggest companies in Newfoundland such as McNamara. He spent nearly 10 years as a mechanic foreman in Churchill Falls and while there, the company flew him to Sept Isles, Quebec where he trained and graduated on the Terex line of heavy equipment. Dad was a lover of music, song and dance and could get a tune out of anything especially the accordion and fiddle. He loved a good laugh and was quick to share a laugh with anyone no matter where he was. Most of all Dad loved to see people succeed not just his family and friends but strangers as well, especially those that overcame huge hurtles to accomplish their goals. He will be forever missed by many. The family will receive relatives and friends at Pendergast's Funeral Home, Quigley's Line, Bell Island, NL on Wednesday January 8th and Thursday January 9th from 2pm to 4pm and 7 pm to 9pm.
