Kenny MacDONALD

PICTOU, N.S. / NORTH CARDIGAN, P.E.I. – Kenneth Reginald MacDonald, 78, of 39 Seaview Cemetery Road, Pictou and formerly of North Cardigan, P.E.I., passed away peacefully on December 18, 2013, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, with his loving wife Margaret and his family surrounding him with love, never leaving his side.
Born in North Cardigan, P.E.I., on March 13, 1935, he was a son of the late Reginald and Sarah Jane (Wood) MacDonald.
For anyone who knew Kenny MacDonald, he was a very simple man whose most cherished possession was his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret and his family. Kenny was known by many in the community as a “jack of all trades”, “You need something fixed, call Kenny” echoes through the streets of Pictou County. He was a man of honour and always tried his best to help out anyone who was in need. Kenny supported his wife and seven children as a Pipefitter Foreman for 30 years at Ferguson Industries, Pictou. He was a proud soldier in the Royal Canadian Army, serving his country as a Private, from January 21, 1955 until his honorable discharge on February 21, 1958. He was also an active member of The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada Association and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 16, Pictou. Kenny enjoyed various activities at the legion especially the dances. Mr. MacDonald sure knew how to cut the rug with his lovely wife Margaret. When Kenny wasn’t busy working and later on in retirement, gardening and landscaping were his expertise. He sure did have a “green thumb”.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Margaret Wanda Ann (MacLeod) MacDonald; sons, Emmett MacDonald, Trenton; Kenneth MacDonald Jr. (Natalie Straight), Trenton; Leslie Doughty (Faye Green), Loch Broom; David (Alice) Doughty, Charlottetown; Gordon Doughty, Calgary; daughters, Tiye Doughty (Dr. Robert Cooper), and Sharon (Robert) Mills, both of Pictou. Kenny is also survived by grandchildren: Shelby MacDonald, Trenton; Karen Jeffery, Sudbury; Shane Jeffery, Saltsprings, Nicole Fiddes, Mandy Fiddes, both of Truro; Melanie Doughty, Aaron Doughty, both of Calgary; Cory Doughty, Charlottetown; David Lannon, Westville. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren; brothers, Chloran and Earl MacDonald; sisters, Helen Marks, Linda Bowen, and Freda Butters, all of Pictou; many nieces and nephews.
Kenny was predeceased by brothers: Emmett, Raymond, Frank and John MacDonald.
A public graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday January 11, in the Seaview Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life and Reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 16, Pictou.
Family flowers only please. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
