It is with overwhelming grief that the family of David McKinnon announce his passing on January 7, 2014, following a brief illness. Those who knew Dave as a 55 year old picture of health are shocked by his untimely death. Dave was predeceased by his father Wilfred (W.A) McKinnon; his brother Stephen, infant brother Michael and his father-in-law Gerald Tiller. Left to celebrate his life, his soul mate and wife, Sharon Tiller, his precious girls, Jennifer and Erica; his mother Cecilia McKinnon, sister Heather; brothers Brian (Adele), Ken, and Ian (Rhonda); mother-in-law Margaret Tiller; sisters-in-law Wanda Tiller (Dee Edison) and Donna Elliott (David); nieces and nephews Stephen, Jesse, Erin, Colin, and Ella McKinnon, Matthew and Adam Edison and Nickie Elliott, special relatives Elroy Hynes (Maureen) and Metzi Prince, the Mc/MacKinnon Clan in Cape Breton and the Hynes family in Ferryland. Dave also leaves behind his colleagues at the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Dave will be greatly missed by a far-reaching network of friends, whose lives he touched. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Friday January 10, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at St. James United Church on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Proton Rahman for lending his outstanding diagnostic skills and for his relentless pursuit of a cure and Dr. Kirsty Tompkins for her compassionate care as well as the incredible team of doctors and nurses involved in Dave's care during his time on 4NA, ICU and at the Ambulatory Treatment Clinic. Thanks also goes to Dave's lifelong friend Dr. Stephen Darcy whose constant presence during this difficult time was a source of comfort to all.
