Budd, Elizabeth “Betty” Anne Hampton - Betty passed away peacefully at the Moncton City Hospital on January 10, 2014 at the age of 103. She was born in Moncton on March 27, 1910 to parents James and Mary Hampton originally of Springburn, Scotland. She was pre-deceased by her brother Danny Hampton (1999) of Lexington, Massachusetts, and by her son-in-law John Neilson (2011). She is survived by her beloved daughter Jean Neilson of Moncton, her three grandchildren Nancy Petersons (Aivars), Andy Neilson (Larry Peloso) of Toronto, Jo-Anne Neilson (Gordie Cherry) of Charlotte, NC, her great-grandson John Petersons of Waterloo and her nephew Bobbie Hampton of Boston. Betty worked as a fashion model for Eaton’s, as a sales associate for Peoples Jewellers, and finally as a civil servant in what was at the time called the Unemployment Insurance Commission. She was an avid curler for many years and continued to watch it on TV when she could no longer play. She took up oil painting in her 70’s while living at Peoples Park Tower and her pieces were occasionally auctioned off for charities. She was probably best known among her peers as a gifted bridge player. She could recall specific hands that were dealt years before and loved to tell stories about the games that got heated. She supplemented her games with practice play on the computer. Betty loved people and always had a smile to match her sunny disposition. Betty was a member of the Holy Family Parish and will be resting at Fair Haven Funeral Home. As per the request of the family, there will be no visitation and only a private service at some future date. In Betty’s memory, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.
