Marie Gillis

Born In: Tignish, Prince Edward Island, Canada

Passed in: Brockton, Canada
Passed on: January 7th, 2014

(Rose) Marie Gillis, affectionately called “Malie” age 70, of Brockton entered into Eternal Life, January 7, 2014, at her cousin's home surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy illness. Marie was the daughter of the late Sixtus and Beatrice (Arsenault) Gillis and sister of the late, Fr. Lee Gillis, all of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Marie was born in Tignish, PEI, and relocated to Massachusetts almost 50 years ago working for Randy's Boat Shoe, General Motors and Bank of America until her retirement. Marie lived a life anchored by prayer and care for others. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Brockton serving as a eucharistic minister and on the Spiritual Development committee. Marie did not call attention to her generous spirit; however, many benefited from her prayers and gestures of kindness and love. Marie was most happy when she was able to share her 'Down East' roots and her fondness for Cape Breton fiddle playing and country western music. She loved talking on the phone regularly to her many friends and relatives. Marie is survived by her aunts, Annie Martin and Edna McGonegal, both of Ontario, many devoted relatives including the Arsenault, Dickinson, Gillis, Mackie, and Peloquin families and many dear friends including Shalanda Murray and her son, Sean Matthews, Gail Serino, Keith and Laura Noiles, and the Jefferey family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, at 9 a.m., in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, followed by interment at Union Cemetery Holbrook, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited and encouraged to attend a reception celebrating Marie's life immediately following interment at the American Legion Bean Post, 19 Hollis Street, Weymouth, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests any donations in Marie's name be made to Our Lady of Lourdes's Homeless Meals Program, 439 West St Brockton, MA 02301.
