It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father, Tony Matlock, on Jan. 13, 2014.
Born in New Waterford, Nov. 29, 1952, he was a son of the late Tony and Mary (Morrison) Matlock.
Tony enrolled in the Canadian Forces in November 1972. He was part of Communication Research (291 'er) and retired in 1996. During his career, postings have included: Inuvik, NT, Bermuda, Kingston, Ont., Gander, N.L., Masset, B.C. as well as six tours in Alert, NT. In May, 1997, Tony joined the Communication Reserve in Glace Bay. He retired in December 2009 as Commanding Officer of 725 Communication Squadron. Captain Tony Matlock, CD2, SSM, QGJM retired with 37 years of dedicated and loyal service. Tony was also a proud member of UN - NATO Nova Scotia Veterans.
Tony was a good, kind and compassionate man. A kid at heart, he had a great sense of humour and loved to have fun.
Tony loved his family and friends most of all. His other loves were cooking (he made the 'best' tea biscuits and loved to share recipes with his sons), hunting, photography, biking and camping (he loved his bonfires).
Tony always had a great smile, infectious laugh and a twinkle in his eyes.
Surviving are his wife and best friend, Jane; sons, Paul (Colleen), Coxheath, Peter, Edmonton, Alta.; brothers, Jon (Patty), Ontario, Francis (Cathy), Scotchtown; sisters, Eleanor (Doug), Sydney; sister-in-law, Sharon (Terry), Glace Bay; brother-in-law, Warren (Janet), Sydney; brother-in-law, Peter, Edmonton, Alta.; nieces, nephews, grandnephews, and grandniece.
Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by sisters, Lillian and Sheila, mother and father-in-law, Margaret and Paul, sister-in-law, Doris.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 16 from 1-3 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
