Ruby A. Smith

Ruby A. Smith, age 89, of River Hebert went to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from the Cumberland Regional Health Center.
Born in River Hebert, NS, she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Margaret (Hoeg) Smith.
Ruby moved to Ontario in her youth and worked a number of years in Neilson's Chocolate Factory. On returning to River Hebert to live, Ruby worked at Oxford Frozen Foods in Half Way River and Oxford until she retired. Ruby lived a lot of her senior years in Bayview Manor in Joggins until she went to Victoria Manor where she lived the remainder of her life under the care of the kind workers and nursing staff there.
The last surviving member of her family, Ruby was predeceased by her parents, an infant brother, and a life time friend Joseph Cormier.
She will be missed and remembered by all her cousins and friends who knew her and saw past the rough exterior to find a kind giving person.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert, NS (667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 1 pm until 2 pm. The funeral service will follow immediately at the funeral home at 2 pm, Rev. Philip Scott officiating. Burial will take place in the Minudie Cemetery in the spring.
Those wishing to make a donation in Ruby's memory may do so to the St. Denis Cemetery or charity of your choice.
Many thanks are extended to the staff at Victoria Manor for their care of Ruby these last four years. Special thanks goes out to the nursing staff and doctors on the surgical unit of the Cumberland Regional Hospital for all their kindness and attentive care of Ruby in her passing. It was greatly appreciated. She had angels here on earth.
I will miss you Ruby, friend Judy Jollymore.
