Margaret 'Margie' Kozera passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Jan. 17, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Center.
Born in Whitney Pier on March 2, 1936, she was the daughter of the late John M. ‘Dan C.’ and Millie (Lappin) MacNeil.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and an awe inspiring 'Nanny'. She took great pride in her marriage and her family, both of which brought her endless joy. A beautiful and gentle soul, filled with compassion and love for others, she took great pleasure in the simple things that life had to offer, such as baking blueberry pie with her grandchildren, caring for her cat, or simply spending time in the kitchen with the teapot filled, chatting with family and friends. Her cooking skills will be missed, as will her sweet tooth.
Margie will be forever missed by her ever loving husband, Walter (Bud) Kozera; her son, John (the late Debbie) Kozera, Annapolis Valley; her daughter, Kelley (Gary) Gittis, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Matthew (Marylee) Kozera, Kristina (Francis Gagnon) Kozera, Samantha Kozera, Daniel Gittis, and Andrew Gittis; as well as three great-grandchildren, Liam, Aiden and Catherine Kozera; one sister, Colleen (Blick) Campbell; three brothers, Dan C. (Valerie) MacNeil, Bill (Linda) MacNeil, John (Theresa) MacNeil; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Joan (James 'Sham') MacDougall, aunt, Sadie (MacNeil) Fogarty and by Ethel (Timmons) MacNeil.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the angels who helped guide us through this journey, particularly: Catherine Schella, Dr. Kozel and Arlene Rutledge, Catherine Kennedy, Janet Kokocki and staff. We are also eternally grateful to the wonderful and caring staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Center.
There will be family visitation only at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, with family service following immediately. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (http://www.alzheimer.ca/en).
Online condolences may be sent to twcurryparkviewchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
There will be a celebration mass at Holy Redeemer Church in Whitney Pier at a later date.
