MARTIN, MERVYN WILLIAM BYRON - Mervyn Martin, 88, of Moncton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2014, after a long and happy life, enriched by family and friends. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Edward Byron and Constance Eugene Martin. Mervyn was the beloved husband of 62 years to Elizabeth (Bette) Martin; greatly loved father of Bruce Martin (Ellen) of Moncton, Ann Vignault of Waterloo, ON and Byron Martin (Eliza Hui) of Ottawa, ON. Proud and loving grandfather of Christian Martin (Jillian), Dr. Beth Martin, Mark Vignault, Allison Vignault and Priscilla Wong; and lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Stearns and Connie King. Mervyn grew up in Moncton, the youngest of three children. He attended school in Moncton and graduated high school at Mount Allison Academy in 1943. He attended the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, graduating in 1948 in Civil Engineering. Mervyn worked at the Canadian National Railway until retiring in 1985 as the Atlantic Regional Engineer of Administration after 30 years service. He was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, a Life Member in the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick and a member of the Probus Club of Greater Moncton.
Resting at Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) with no visitation at the request of the family. Funeral Service at St. George’s Anglican Church (51 Church St.) on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating. Reception in the Church Hall following the service.
