Barbara Jacqueline (Wareham) Brownell passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2014 in Chilliwack, B.C.
Born on Oct. 15, 1934 in Birch Grove, Cape Breton, N.S., the daughter of the late Maude (Pickford) (Janes) and William Wareham Sr. Barbara served her country in the RCAF (1953-58) as a Fighter Control Operator and later with the Department of National Defense. She along with her husband Carl became members of the Canadian Legion Br. 280 and were very involved members. Barbara was also a member of the ladies auxiliary where she served many executive positions including six years as president. She was always willing to help others and most appreciative of kindnesses shown to her. A quiet lady by nature, she loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed reading and travelling to visit family and experience new and exciting ventures like salmon fishing and a cruise up the Pacific coast to Alaska and a helicopter ride to see the glaciers.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 55 years, Carl; son, Kevin (Debbie); daughter, Sheryl; nephew, Dan (Valdina); 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Jerusha (George) Roberts and Sharon (Emile) Fournier and brothers, Frank, Baxter and Howard Janes and Clyde Wareham; special niece, Rolonda Hussey and special sister, Christina 'Tootsie' Gallant.
Predeceased by parents; sisters, Margaret Penny, Sarah Hennessey, Clara Hennessey, Dorothy Fukala and Claudine Hussey and brothers, William Jr., Ernest, Samuel, Elijah Wareham and Charles Janes.
A special thank you to Dr. Ross, his staff and the staff at Chilliwack Hospital.
As per Barbara’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at Vedder Legion Branch 280, 5661 Vedder Road, Chilliwack, B.C. at 12 p.m. with a reception to follow.
