RICHARD, BERNARD JOSEPH - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernard Richard of Saint John, beloved husband of Malvina (Gosselin) Richard, occurred on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Bobby’s Hospice. Born on June 26, 1934 in Acadieville, he was the son of the late Francois and Edmée (Roach) Richard. Prior to his retirement, Bernard was employed with Maritime Paper for 36 years. He was a man of strong faith, who was a member of the parish of St-Francois-de-Sales. He was active in the church choir and loved his church community. Bernard was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6770 and loved bowling with his mixed seniors bowling league. Bernard was a passionate Montreal Canadiens fan; who also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and his morning walks. Most of all, he was a true family man who adored and treasured the times spent with his loving family. He will be sadly missed. In addition to his wife, Bernard is also survived by his children, Paul (Helen) of Moncton, Anita Toogood (Ronald) of Moncton, Robert (Darlene) of Saint John; Norman (Nancy) of Nerepis; Emily McManus (Dave) of Saint John; Linda Gauthier (Jean-Yves) of Martinon and Dianne Monaghan (Steve) of Second Falls; siblings, Eloi Richard of Ontario, Armand Richard of Shediac, Rev. Alphonse Richard of Shediac, Gerald Richard of Massachusetts, Jean Richard of Montreal, Leo Paul Richard of Dieppe, Rose LeBlanc of Dieppe, Yvonne Cormier of Prince Edward Island and Bernadette Chenard of Sainte-Marie-de-Kent; grandchildren, Ricky, Alisha, Allison, Andrew, John, Katherine, André, Stephane, Patrick, Chantal, Rachelle, Amanda and Alex; great-granddaughter, Rebekah; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Ivon and sisters, Alma and Anita. The Richard family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Bobby's Hospice for the tender loving care that was provided to Bernard during his stay.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425), with visiting on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St-Francois-de-Sales Church, 291 Boar’s Head Road, Saint John on Monday, January 27, 2014, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances made to Bobby’s Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
