Today we mourn the passing of Paul Gerard MacDonald, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. Paul passed away peacefully on Saturday February 1, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was the son of the late George and Marion (MacKenzie) MacDonald. He was a lifetime resident of Dominion. Paul was a miner, working in # 26, Lingan and Prince Mines. Paul’s greatest passion was his family of whom he was very proud. He was also an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. He loved to laugh and carry on with people and could often be found sharing a joke or story at the local Tim Hortons.
Paul is survived by his wife, Anne (MacNeil) who was his best friend and the love of his life; sons, Paul Joe, Chris, Ryan (Ashley) and Evan (Talia); as well as his two grandchildren, Erika and Zachary who were so special to him and brightened up his days with their presence. Paul is also survived by brothers, George (Miriam), Edward (Anita) and Francis (Sandy) and sisters, Margie (Kevin) Hill, and Ollie (Tony) Hamilton, parents-in-law, Joseph and Lena MacNeil; brothers-in-law, Michael (Darlene), Steve (Uli), Bernie (Florence); sisters-in-law Mary (Eddie) Kelly, Brenda (Greg) MacKinnon, Lisa (Tom) Whiting, and Diane, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, George and Marion MacDonald and sisters, Mary Catherine and Mary Louise, in infancy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Gallivan for his care and compassion for Paul, as well as the nurses and staff at the Glace Bay Hospital who kept him smiling throughout his lengthy illness, you became like family to him.
The family will be honoring Paul’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. Daniel Boudreau will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to Diabetes Association, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
