It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Dorothy 'Dot' McPhee age 85 of Glace Bay. Dot passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Dot was the daughter of the late William 'Buck' and Margaret (McNeil) Metcalfe.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church. Dot was first and foremost a homemaker. She was a licenced hairdresser working from her home. She was a member of the neighbourhood Ladies Club. Dot was a straight talker. She put concerns of others before her own. Family was very important to her.
Dot will be sadly missed by her sons, Gerard (Cheryl), Glace Bay, Danny, at home, Dave (Audrey), Ont., Paul (Sheri) and Cordell (Linda); sister, Patsy Mills, all of Glace Bay; cherished grandchildren, Shannon, Tara, Michael, Steven, Kayleigh, Ryan, Vance, Lyla and one great grandchild, Riley.
Beside her parents, Dot was predeceased by her husband, Michael Adrian McPhee; brothers, Russell, Sheldon and Wayne & Aubrey, in infancy; sisters, Marion and Shirley, in infancy.
There will be no visitation for Dot McPhee. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
