Joyce Prosser

PROSSER, JOYCE - Joyce Marie Prosser nee Estabrooks, wife of Dr. Bob Prosser, died suddenly and unexpectedly on the 3rd of February, 2014. She was a devoted Mother, Wife and Companion to her husband for 54 years. Joyce was born in Sackville, NB on the 22nd of December, 1935. She was the eldest daughter and child to the late Chester and Davene Estabrooks. Joyce always had a penchant for Health Care and at an early age had the whole Rawleigh's compendium to health products memorized. She studied music, was a Gold Cord Guide, sang in the United Church Choir, skated often with her Dad by her side and shared a happy and full childhood with her brothers, Malcolm, Dale and Ellerd and her sister, Diana. She graduated from Sackville High school with honors and went on to Nursing in the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, graduating from the hospital program with an RN. She worked in Halifax on urology until 1959 and then left to pursue pediatric, orthopedic and neurologic nursing at the Los Angeles County General Hospital. Joyce was active in community affairs and continued teaching Brownies at the Saint Andrews United Church. She met her husband to be at Young Peoples Hour on a Sunday night and their relationship blossomed into marriage, August 20th, 1960. She helped support her student husband at Medical School until he graduated May 2nd, 1964. He was already enrolled in the Military and their first posting was Base Gagetown in 1964 and this became their permanent home. Joyce was always active in the community. She was a Brown Owl, very active in figure skating with her daughters, Diana and Lisa; and track and field with her son, Scott. There were many hours spent on music lessons and Bonnie Kilburn Dancing. She started the Candy Stripers Program in the Oromocto Public Hospital and was always active in community affairs and most importantly, her husband's practice, where she started and maintained lifetime friendships with many people that made up his life's work. Joyce is survived by her husband, Robert; brothers, Malcolm, Dale and Ellerd; her sister, Diana; her three children, Scott, Diana and Lisa; and three grandchildren, Haley, Megan and Jon Robbie. Her one great regret in life was not becoming a Physician but made up for it by making a success of her husband's practice. She will forever be missed by her husband and family as she was a truly remarkable person.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent De Paul Church on Friday, February 7th, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Ken Weir as celebrant, and Rev. Harold King assisting. The celebration of her life will continue at the St. Vincent De Paul Church Hall after Mass. In lieu of flowers donations to the Palliative Care Unit at the Oromocto Public Hospital would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences can be made at www.oromoctofh.com, 357-5100.
