Passed on: October 28th, 2008
After a long illness we announce God’s mercy in the passing of Flora May Easter (nee Phillips Easter) on Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at the Delta Hospital Extended Care Unit, in Delta, B.C. She left us quietly and in comfort for which we sincerely thank the caring staff of the ECU. Flora was born on January 18, 1917, at Mount Royal, Prince Edward Island, to Maude and Sargent Phillips, where she lived during her younger years. She married Erland Millar and lived in Ellerslie and then Haliburton, where her only daughter, Elaine Maude Canning, was born. After the untimely passing of her husband, Erland, Flora lived and worked in Ottawa, Ontario, and later in West Vancouver, B.C., after which she moved to the Boston, Mass., area. In 1965 Flora married Charles Easter of Weymouth, Mass., and lived in Weymouth until Mr. Easter passed away. Flora subsequently moved back to O’Leary, P.E.I., in 1988 where she lived until 1993, when she moved to Delta, B.C., to be closer to her daughter, Elaine. Flora leaves to mourn her only daughter, Elaine (David); granddaughters, Janice (Rob) and Julie (David); and two great-grandsons, Ryan and Alexander; also brothers, Sanford (Thelma); Senator Dr. Orville, Ray (Gertrude); and sisters-in-law, Pansy, Anne, Marion and Doris Phillips. Flora’s departing will also be felt with sorrow by members of the Millar and Easter families. Flora was predeceased by her brothers, Vernon, Wyman, Ernest, Brenton, Erland; and sisters, Lillian and Ivy. Resting at the Ferguson Funeral Home and Chapel, O’Leary, with visiting hours Monday, November 3, 2008, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service to be held at the Tyne Valley Presbyterian Church on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
