Stephen Augustine MacEachern

Born In: Dingwall
Born: May 30th, 1943

Passed on: February 11th, 2014

With heavy hearts and tear filled eyes, we announce the sudden death of Stephen.
He was born and raised in Dingwall, where he resided most of his life, having left for only a short period of time, residing in Dartmouth and Ontario.
In his younger years, Stephen was an avid boxer with a very impressive record in the ring. However, his career in boxing was cut short due to a car accident which left him paralyzed. He was told that he would never walk again but with the heart and determination of a boxer he did walk again without assistance, although later in life he was once again confined to a wheelchair. Stephen never lost his love for boxing and over the years he trained many young men, and women from Dingwall and surrounding areas. He was recognized by the Nova Scotia Boxing Association and invited to many of their events.
As a young man Stephen met and married the love of his life, Carolyn Fraser. He was a die hard Habs fan, and no one could win an argument with him dealing with politics. Stephen also had a great love for traditional music and was especially fond of listening to laments played on fiddle and highland bagpipes.
Everyone knew Stephen in the small community of Dingwall and helped him out many times. We know he would like to say thank you, especially to his ‘Buddies’.
There was also another side to Stephen: his strong faith and knowledge of scripture. It was rare for him to miss watching mass on TV. It was his strong faith that seen him through many hardships.
Stephen is survived by three sisters and one brother; Pauline Chubbs, Dingwall; Christena Lewis, Edwardsville; Ruth Brock, Ontario and Alex (Shirley) MacEachern, Baddeck; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn (Fraser) MacEachern; parents, Augustine and Maggie MacEachern; sisters, Kay Dunphy, Jessie Fitzgerald; brothers, John William, Archie, Douglas, Russell, Michael and Dukie MacEachern.
We would like to extend sincere thanks to all home care workers.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacEachern will take place at St. Joseph’s Church, Dingwall on Sunday, Feb. 16 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 2 p.m. with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating.
