Sutherland (nee McRae), Phyllis Noel – 93, passed away peacefully at Parkstone Enhanced Care on February 12th, 2014, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born on Christmas Day 1920 in Dartmouth, she was the daughter of Willis and Dorothy (Wright) McRae. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Aubrey Sutherland; sisters, Dorothy (Harry Wright), Lorraine (George Barnhill) and Elizabeth; brothers, Ivor (Ruby), Alan (Audrey) Eric (Ella) and Buster. She is survived by her daughters Barbara Sue (Ronald) Bourne and Sheila; sons Richard (Sandra Chartrand) and Murray; grandchildren Robert and Terrance Bourne, and Kerry Ann (Benjamin Viggiani) and Michael Sutherland; great-grandchildren Alidah Bourne and Noah Viggiani.

Phyllis was serving in the Air Force during WWII when she met Aubrey in Mont Joli, Quebec. Together they enjoyed a full life with family and friends while residing in New Glasgow, Marriott’s Cove, Chester Grant, and Halifax. She was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church. In the past, Phyllis gave freely of her time to the Liberal Party, Bonny Lea Farm, and Victoria Order of Nurses.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, where visitation will be held 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, February15, 2014. A service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2 pm. Donations in memory may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund or a charity of your choice.
