The family and friends of Gertrude May (MacPhee) Jardine, are saddened to announce her passing on Thursday, February 13, 2014, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, where she was a resident for the past 15 months. Born August 7, 1918 in Egerton, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late John William and Jessie May (Franklin) MacPhee. She met and married Dan, the love of her life, in 1937, they lived in Trenton and together they raised six children. She worked for a time at Cornish’s Variety Store, Trenton and MacLeod’s Pharmacy, New Glasgow. She was a fantastic cook and loved to try new recipes right up until she had to leave her own home at age 94. She was a wonderful craftsperson and could turn her hand at virtually any craft she chose. She also loved plants - particularly her wild roses and African violets - and had quite a green thumb. No matter where in Pictou County Gert happened to live, her warmth and generosity always made it feel like home. Gert is survived by sons: Bill (Janet), Lower Sackville; Dan (Cathy) and Jack (Peggy), both of Trenton; Jim (Carole), Halifax; and daughter, Lori Gladue, Edmonton; sisters: Edna Cornish, Trenton; Grace Green, New Glasgow. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Carolyn (John) Quinn, Eleanor Jardine, David MacDonald, Andrea (Trevor) Johnson, Michael (Tammy) Jardine, Nancy (Chris) Paldy, Debbie Jardine, Dan (Gail) Jardine, Jackie (Mike) MacKean, Lisa (Kevin) Adshade, Stephanie (Christian) Barrett, Eddie Jardine and Jesse Gladue; as well as 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dan; daughter, Louise Paquette; sister, Hazel Pettipas; brothers: Roderick, Jack, William and Harold. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton, from where funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating. Interment in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Glen Haven Manor, particularly the nursing staff, for the care and love they gave Gert every day. Their compassion, dedication and professionalism and their love for what they do were clearly evident in the excellent care Gert received and for that, we will be eternally grateful.
