WELL-KNOWN KENTVILLE DENTIST PASSES AWAY
Dr. W. Harris Young, DDS - 85, of Wolfville, formerly of Kentville, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 while vacationing in Florida. Born in Wolfville, he was the son of the late William and Edna (Ross) Young. He received his education at Kings County Academy and Acadia University, where he was involved in various activities. He then graduated first in his class at Dalhousie Dental School and practiced in Kentville for almost 40 years. During his younger years, he was a well-known athlete and was known as "Lefty" in the Halifax and Dartmouth Baseball League. He was also a Boy Scout leader, coached minor sports and was a member of the KenWo Golf Club and past president of the Glooscap Curling Club. He was a member of the Kentville Lions Club and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. Harris was a charter member of the barbershop group, Dukes of Kent and was presently a member of the Gentleman's Choir in Wolfville. He enjoyed travelling, sailing and especially spending time at the family cottage on the South Shore. His love of family was foremost. He is survived by his second wife, Lois (Hayward) (Fagan); a daughter, Andrea (Stephen) Pearl, Kentville; a son, William "Bill" (Lynn) Young, Kentville; two step-sons, Bruce (Jeanie) Fagan, Kentville; Donald (Arlene) Fagan, Ridge Road; grandchildren, Matthew Pearl (Kelly deBouver), their children, Jaeda, Carsen and Cohen; Ryan Pearl (fiancée, Nikki Wentzell); Lindsay, Allison, Haley and Emma Young; step-grandchildren, Michael, Paul, David, Ashley and Ryan Fagan. He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Jean (Smith); twin sister, Ardyth Young. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, February 20, 2014 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2014, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Valley Hospice Foundation or the charity of your choice.
