Guy Carl  Brander

It is with great sadness that the family of Guy Carl Brander age 92 of Amherst announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at home with his family by his side.
Born in Northport, NS he was a son of the late William and Gertrude (Harrop) Brander.
He was a proud veteran of World War II although he did not like to discuss it often. He served in the Air Force in England working as a Radar Mechanic.
After Carl was discharged from the military he moved to Ontario and lived there for 50 years where he worked as an entrepreneur. He owned and operated several businesses and the last being Brander’s Pool Service, he moved back to Amherst in 1989.
He was an adherent of the Amherst Wesleyan Church. Carl enjoyed woodworking, traveling, gardening, canvas painting and spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife the former Beatrice “Mattinson” Murray, two daughters Janet Minion of Oakville, ON and Sue (Ken) Walker of Amherst, two sons Chuck (Carole) Currie of Haliburton, ON and Paul (Leslie) Brander of Wiarton, ON, one sister Gwenda “Greenlaw” Harvey of Brown’s Flats, NB, grandchildren Phillip, Mark, Michael, Bruce, Lorraine, Heather, Brian, Angela, Susan, Sally, Laura, Rhudy, Warren, Kimberly, Johnathan, Brittney, Brandon, Connon and Samuel, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his first wife Ruth (Currie) Brander, one son Bob Currie, one daughter Angela Murray and one grandson Stephen Currie.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, NS.(902-667-9906) The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 tribute service will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Amherst Wesleyan Church with Rev. Raymond Fancy officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in the Northport Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Carl’s memory may be made to the Amherst Wesleyan Church Building Fund or the charity of your choice.
