MORTON, Margaret “Jennie” – On Sunday, February 23, 2014, the long life of Margaret Jennie Morton, age 92, of Harbourville, Kings Co., came to a close at the Orchard Court, Kentville. She was born in Harbourville, to the late Lemuel and Blanche (Spicer) Brown on January 22, 1922 – their third child and only daughter. Jennie completed 12 years of education at the school in Harbourvillle – the community of her birth, where she lived almost all of her life and which she loved dearly. As a young woman, she worked for various businesses and families in Harbourville, Somerset, Berwick and Truro, before meeting and marrying Wallace Morton. Once Wallace returned from the Second World War, the two began their family in Harbourville. Here, Jennie raised her children cared for her mother and bachelor brothers in later years, contributed to her church (Harbourville United) and to the weekly meeting of the Ladies Sewing Circle. She also provided at different times a caring home for two women from the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville. Jennie had a quick sense of humor and was quite adept at harmless practical jokes, a trait her children and husband saw first-hand. Although she became a widow in 1987, she continued living in her home in Harbourville, but did enjoy a number of excursions to parts of eastern Canada with friends and neighbors. In recent times, Jennie lived for five years in the Fundy Villa Apartments in Berwick and most recently for two years at the Orchard Court Shannex facility in Kentville. Throughout her life, she truly cherished her many friends as well as family members. Jennie’s friend, Bedford Graves also brought her companionship through their drives, suppers and conversations. Surviving family include daughter, Joan (Klaus) Jensen, Coldbrook, granddaughters, Sophie, Fredericton, N.B., Emma, Coldbrook; son, Paul (Pamela) Morton, Welsford, grandsons, Taylor, Zachery, Aaron and Seth; brother-in-law, Ken Morton, Kentville; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, H. Wallace Morton; older brothers, Harold and Wilfred Brown. There was no visitation. Funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, in the Berwick United Church, 240 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Tom Woods officiated, and a reception followed. Burial in the Harbourville Cemetery, at a later date. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to the Harbourville Cemetery Fund or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
