SABINE, Frederick Arthur, age 96, of The Meadows Home for Special Care, formerly of South Ohio, passed away February 26, 2014 in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born August 18, 1917, in Riverdale, Digby Co., he was the son of the late Joseph and Bessie (Fullerton) Sabine. Fred was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the Provost Corp for three and a half years, member of the High Hopes in Port Maitland and Brooklyn Bright Lights. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and in past years worked in saw mills and in the woods. Fred is survived by his wife, Helen (Hurlburt), The Meadows Home for Special Care; daughters, Nancy (Bruce) Earle, Brooklyn, Yarmouth Co.; Janet (Terry) Forrest, Halifax; son, Leonard (Linda), Pleasant Valley; step daughters, Donna Blackadar, South Ohio; Lorna (Tom) Banks, Auburn, N.S.; brother, Earl, Riverdale, Digby Co.; 6 grandchildren; step granddaughter, Natalie and 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Florence Jeffery; sister, Bessie and brothers, Walter and Edgar. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Friday, February 28, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church, Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth Co. A funeral took place Saturday March 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant United Baptist Church Rev. Mike Cannell officiated. Burial took place in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
