MICHAUD, ALPHONSE - The family of Alphonse Joseph Michaud wishes to celebrate his long and blessed life. He passed on March 2, 2014 in Edmundston, NB. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marie Arthémise Landry, in October of 2010. He was born on November 18, 1922 in Edmundston, NB, the son of the late Alphonse and Adèle Michaud. He graduated from Edmundston High School in 1940 and began work as a Postmaster’s Assistant at the Edmundston Post Office. In l943 he enlisted in the army and served with the Canadian Postal Corps in Halifax, Moncton and Ottawa until July of 1946. After the war, he returned to work for Canada Post and held various positions in Tracadie, Newcastle, Campbellton, NB, Ottawa and finally, in Saint John where he retired as Superintendent of Operations in December of 1978 after a dedicated 38 year career. After his retirement, he worked for the short lived Canadian Sports Pool Corporation in Moncton as Administration Manager for NB and PEI. He has been a member of St Rose of Lima Parish for over 48 years and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 68 years. He was a volunteer and a founding member of the NB Chapter of the Post Office Heritage Club. He also volunteered with the 1985 Canada Summer Games, Festival by the Sea, and with senior baseball at Memorial Field. He was a life long sports fan, particularly enjoying hockey, baseball and football. He is survived by his chosen children, Paul (Barbara White) of Riverview, NB and Annette (Gary Melanson) of Saint John; and by his beloved grandchildren: Kate, Christine, Michael and Anne Michaud; and Matthew and Benjamin Melanson. Besides his wife and his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marie Lucille in her infancy. We were blessed to have such a special man as our husband, father, grandfather and friend. He gave us many gifts, the greatest of which were faith, honour, integrity and humour.
He is resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425). Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Wednesday at 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 12 noon. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Remembrances to La Fondation des Oeuvres de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Saint-Basile Inc. or the Royal Canadian Legion would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
