Christina 'Loretta' MacNeil
Born In: Sydney Mines
Passed in: Halifax, Canada
Passed on: March 3rd, 2014
Died peacefully at her home on March 7, 2014, in Halifax after a long struggle with Alzheimers.
She was born to Joseph and Christie Ann (Jobes) MacNeil and grew up on Convent Street in Sydney Mines.
She was always very proud of her Celtic heritage.
Her long nursing career started in 1951, when she graduated from St. Joseph Hospital in Glace Bay and continued for many years at the Halifax Infirmary until her retirement. She found her time at staff health the most rewarding.
Loretta was the last surviving member of her family, having been predeceased by Lawrence, Bernard, Michael, Mary, Sister Ann Mary, Theresa, and Camillus. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Visitation will be held at Francis Funeral Home in Sydney Mines today (Monday March 10, 2014) from 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday March 11 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Parish (the former St. Pius X Church) Main Street, Sydney Mines with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Internment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society, in Loretta's memory, would be greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to her Newfoundland Ladies, Bride and Doreen, and also Marg, Dr. Tilley, her Heatherwood Court friends, Anita and all the team at Continuing Care. Thank you all for your kindness.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
