Passed on: March 9th, 2014
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Lois Ann Currie, (Swan) announces her peaceful passing with sons by her side at Northside General Hospital, Sunday, March 9, 2014.
Born in Sydney Mines, N.S., in 1934, Lois was the daughter of the Late George and Catherine (Marsh) Swan.
Lois loved her family, politics, sports and cards. She was a longtime supporter of the Liberal party, and enjoyed a good debate on the subject at any time. She was an avid Maple Leafs fan, and cheered for her Leafs in good times and bad. Cards also played a big part of her life. The Bras d’Or Pensioners’ Club was a second home to her, and one often heard of the fun times had with her many friends on card night.
Lois and Tony’s was a military family, who lived on bases across Canada, eventually retiring back to Little Bras d’Or and the place she adored. Tony Sr.’s passing in 1991 left a significant gap in Lois’s life and she missed her husband every day. We know he is waiting for her with a deck of cards and a crib board in hand.
She is survived by her sons, Tony (Mary Margaret) and Sheldon (Heather); sister, Bridgette (Reginald) Thurbide,;12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, along with numerous other relatives.
Besides her parents and husband, Lois was predeceased by her son Charles and daughter Greta.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 3 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Parish, Little Bras d’Or, with a reception to follow, at the St. Joseph Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lois’s name to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to her niece, Kim Day who provided much loving care in her final years. Special thanks to niece Cassie Brochu, and all the nurses of Northside General for their tenderness and kindness these past couple of weeks.
