It’s with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Jean Ewing (Evans) Bragg. Jean passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born and raised in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Lizzie (Adair) Evans.
She was employed with North Sydney Marine Railway and later as the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for the Northside-Victoria Amalgamated School Board from 1967 until her retirement in 1985. For several years she was an avid curler, and later was very involved in TOPS 757 North Sydney. She was a member at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Jean is survived by her only child, her daughter Paula (Tony Fernandez) and her only grandchild, her “baby” Kristi (Jeremy Nieforth). She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Betty Starratt, Truro; her brother Robert (Donna), Sydney Mines; her sister-in-law Lorna Evans Tucker (Lloyd), New Brunswick, and several nieces and nephews. Jean will also be greatly missed by “her girls” from the Guest Home, Corrina, Marina, Michelle, Laura, Tracy, Diane and Candice.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Jack Bragg, her brother Leo (Bud) Evans and brother-in-law Ken Starrett.
The family would like to thank the staff of Miner’s Memorial Manor, Northside Community Guest Home and Northside Homemakers for their excellent care of Jean.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service for Jean will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15 at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. A reception to celebrate Jean’s life will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in may be made to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church 3M Campaign or a charity of one’s choice.
