CARTER, Lyda “Fern” – 95yrs, of Berwick, NS formerly of Melvern Square, NS passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville surrounded by her family. Born in Prince Albert, NS she was the daughter of the late William and Nan (Pierce) Andrews. Fern was a retired nurse having worked in the old Middleton Hospital and later at Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. She loved to cook and host family potlucks and get-togethers. Fern worked hard in her community and her church and devoted her life to her family. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Lois (Tom) Coolen, Belleville, ON; Wilma Jean “Billie” Brown, Mosher’s Corner; Lillian “Lil” Boates, Kingston; Carol (Joe) Crouse, Melvern Square; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Carter and granddaughter Sandra Jean in infancy. By Fern’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Lic. Elaine Bent officiating. A reception for family and friends followed the service. Interment will be in Church Grove Cemetery, Melvern Square.
