It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, John, aged 97, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
Born in L’Islet, Quebec, on September 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nelina (Thibault) Theberge.
John was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney. Dad formerly ran a sawmill with his father and worked at Brookfield Dairy, Modern City Dairy, and Municipal Ready Mix. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, woodworking, playing solitaire and especially enjoyed Brenda’s potato pancakes.
He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne (Gordon) MacVicar, Coxheath, Anne (Don MacIsaac), Sydney and Claire (John) MacPhee, East Bay; sons, John Jr. (Vicky), Woodstock, N.B., Joe (Brenda), Sydney and Phillip (Jo-Ann), P.E.I.; grandchildren, Doug, Angela, Lisa, Jason, Joey, Victor, Cindy, Natalie, Matthew, Luke and Cole; and 17 great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Carmel (MacLean) in January 2014. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his brothers, Roger and Maurice and sisters, Simone, Bernadette, Bertha, Marcelle, Claire and Rolande.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, March 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
