Synove Megaard Sandvik

Synove was born in Kristiansund, Norway, the oldest child of Betzy and Sigurd Megaard, she lost her mother at an early age. She grew up there and had many stories of living as a young woman in occupied Norway during WWII. She studied law at the University of Oslo and later worked for Norwegian Health Insurance. In 1967 she came to Canada to marry Alf Sandvik. They farmed in the Pine Lake district south of Central Butte until 1988 when they retired to Elbow. Synove was very active in the community there and lived in her own home until she was 90. She moved to the Iver Main Care Home in Central Butte in November of 2011, later moving to Regency Hospital. She was always very proud of her Norwegian heritage and made several trips to Norway over the years. She was predeceased by her husband Alf Sandvik in 1991, and brother-in-law Ole (Grace) Sandvik. In Norway she was predeceased by her parents, step-mother, brother Sigurd and sisters Sigrid and Betty. She is survived by her sisters Anne, Astrid and Mary; as well as several nieces and nephews and other relatives in Denmark and Norway. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday March 15, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Bill Cantelon will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials donations to Regency Hospital, Long Term Care, Central Butte or to Zoar Lutheran Church Fund, would be appreciated. In living memory of Synove, a memorial planting will be made by W.J.
