George Jenkins

Jenkins, George Hugh, 78 of MacLellan’s Brook Road, Greenwood, Pictou County died March 13, 2014 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Trenton he was a son of the late Ephriam and Agnes(Tanner)Jenkins.
Survived by his wife the former Phyllis (Gallant),
a Son, Michael Jenkins (Anne),
Daughters: Darlene Wallace (Gilbert),
Donna Forbes (Grant),
Michelle Jenkins, all of Pictou County;
Grandchildren: Chris, Peter, and Laura Jenkins, Gloria Fraser, Benjamin and Jonathan Wallace, Tyler MacLane.
Great grandchildren: Jake, Levi, Emily, and Bradley.
He was survived by siblings: Katherine Verschaeve (Francois), Fred, Fraser (Donna), Gordon(Judy),Cheryl Jenkins, sister-in-law Judy Jenkins and Brother-in-law Fred Gunn. Several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Stranburg, Roy, Walter, Belle, Carol, Helen and Norman.
George was well known business person as the founder and proprietor for over 25 years of the Crossroads County Market Bakery and Restaurant located in Coalburn Pictou County now owned by his grandson Tyler. Prior to opening the Country Market he also owned and operated the F&G Meat store in Bible Hill for several years and worked with his brother Stran at the Homestretch Meat Market. During the 70’s he travelled throughout Atlantic Canada in truck and farm retail tire sales.
Prior to returning to Nova Scotia in 1970 George lived in Hagersville, Ontario where he owned and operated Penguin Cold storage Plant and meat market. George also lived in the Hamilton Ontario area for many years during his early career and worked for Dominion stores as a meat cutter well as several sales positions.
George was always interested in local community and happy to assist with contributing to local events and requests for assistance. He enjoyed meeting with his many friends and customers during Sunday and weekday morning breakfasts at “the store” to discuss local gossip and current events.

George was Generous, kind, held no grudges, had a sweet tooth, enjoyed get togethers with family and friends near and far.
Cremation to take place.
The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9pm Monday at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where a memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod presiding. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the Castle Hill Cemetery.
Memorial Donations in memory of George may be made to the Castle Hill Cemetery fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
