SPONAGLE, MARION CLAIRE - Marion Claire Sponagle, age 92, Goldboro, Guysborough Co., With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our Mother, Marion Claire (nee Warrington) (Hanlon) Sponagle who passed away on Wednesday, March 19,2014 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born March 3,1922, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Jenny C. (Horton) Warrington of New Harbour. Marion spent her early years in Moncton, N.B., moving on to Saint John, N.B. and finally spending her later years in Goldboro, Nova Scotia. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Self-educated, Marion was an avid reader with a passion for history and genealogy. She couldn’t be beaten at a game of Trivial Pursuit. Her warm smile, quirky sense of humour and cheerful outlook endeared her to all who met her. Marion spent much of her life caring for her loved ones and those less fortunate than herself. Marion is survived by her husband Raymond Sponagle, Goldboro; sons, Neil (Jane) Hanlon and Dale Hanlon, both of Saint John, N.B.; step-children, Belva Sokoloski, Barrie, Ontario; and Garth Hanlon, Kelowna, B.C.; grandchildren, Jared and Jessica Claire Hanlon, Rachel Hanlon, step-grandchildren, Sharon, Donald and David Hanlon, Tom Sokoloski, Patricia Judd and Susan Munroe, brother-in-law, Purvis (Joan) Sponagle, Goldboro; several great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur M. Hanlon, step-son, Theodore Hanlon, great-granddaughter, Krystal Lawson.
Visitation will be held today from 3 to 7 pm in G W Giffin Funeral Home, Country Harbour and from where funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday with Lewis MacIntosh officiating. Interment to follow in Bayview Cemetery, Goldboro. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
