Laurie Joseph Burgess

It is with great sadness that the family of Laurie Joseph Burgess age 74 of Amherst announce his passing on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Amherst, he was a son of the late William and Celina (Bourque) Burgess.
Laurie loved all sports and in his younger years was an avid basketball player and was a Phys Ed Teacher for some time. One of the high points of his life was when he won a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the Summer Olympics.
He worked for many years at Robb’s Engineering and later worked as an inspector for Atomic Energy of Canada in Korea for two years.
Laurie loved music, enjoyed dancing and was a gentleman.
He will be sadly missed by his children Brenda (Jerry) Metz and Bob (Janice) Goldrich both of Amherst, Arlene (Tim) Adams of Halifax, Jo-Ann (Arnold) Booth of Elmsdale, NS and Shirlee Goldrich of Souris, Manitoba, 11 grandchildren Jerry, Jamie, Shannon, Lindsay, Tim, Trevor, Carrie, Michelle, Stacy, Katie and William, 13 great grandchildren, one brother Edgar (Beatrice) of Amherst, several nieces and nephews and special friend Windy White of Amherst.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Juanita (Pederson) Burgess.
There will be no visitation.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst. (902-667-9906)
The Rev. Charlotte Ross will officiate.
