LAKING, CLAIR AROLD - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Clair Arold Laking, who transitioned peacefully on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at Kennebec Manor Nursing Home with his daughters and nurses at his side. Clair was born in McAdam, NB on October 1, 1935, a son of the late Clair and Bessie (Sutherland) Laking of McAdam, NB. He was the second youngest of eight children and was predeceased by daughter Sherill Hill; sisters Ella (Bunny) Burrell, Hazel (Frank) McNally, Lois (Bernell) Tracey; brothers Ron (Colleen) Laking, and sadly brother Eugene Laking passed away on the same day in British Columbia. He is survived by his four daughters Martha (Leslie) Mayes, Joyce (Brent) Carlson, Sandra (Peter) Carruthers-Ten Hoeve and Carol (Randy) Huston all of Thunder Bay, Ont; his sister Jacqueline (Alfred) Lord of McAdam, NB , his brother Paul of Moncton, grandchildren, Erin, Greg , Jesse, Jamie, Lindsey, Andrew, Tyler, Adam , DJ, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, Breanna, Nathan, Pheobe, Brandon and Tyler Jr; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Clair was a very athletic young man, who loved to play sports and became an avid baseball and hockey player. He was a loving and caring father who would give you the shirt off his back if you were cold and his food if you were hungry. He was a very social, fun loving humorous resident who loved to sing, to charm and to spend time with his many extraordinary compassionate nurses who were his family for the last 10 years at the nursing home. Extra-special thank you to all the staff and heartfelt appreciation go out to Clair's nieces Darleen Boyle and Jackie Lord for taking time out to visit. Thanks!; his nurses Lucy, Jillian, Shelley, Mike, Linda, Liza, and Madeline who took the time to really enjoy Clair and show him so much loving kindness at Kennebec. Your "Clair Bear" is at peace now and eternally grateful. God bless you all. To live in the hearts of those we love, is never to die.
