Donald 'Doc' MacKenzie

Doc, age 89, passed away peacefully while residing at Grand River Hospital - Freeport Campus on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
Doc was born in Sydney, N.S. to Neil MacKenzie and Julia Dunn. Doc was predeceased by his brother Neil ("Beans"). In the late 1940s he relocated to Kitchener, Ont., where he married the late Geraldine 'Gerry' Zettler. Doc is the loving father of Brian and wife Patricia and Beverley Legault and husband Rene. Proud grandfather of Ryan McKenzie, Lindsay McKenzie and Alexander Legault. Following Gerry's passing, Doc re-visited his boyhood friends in Cape Breton and met up with and married the late Elsie Matheson (nee Mingarelli), mother of Sharon MacIntyre and husband Mackie, Paulette Novacco and husband Salvano and Alexander 'Sandy' Matheson and wife Wendy. Step-grandfather of Arron (Debbie), Damien, Raina (Greg), and Bailey (Bobby). Doc proudly worked at BF Goodrich for 43 years. For many years he served as an usher at St. Anthony Daniel Catholic Church. Doc was also a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus and proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In his retirement he called golfing at Doon Valley with the Gaffers his job.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cescon, Dr. Tan, Dr. Schwarz, Dr. Mulkoski and nurse Jenn from CCAC, and nurses from 3rd floor Freeport for their wonderful care. Doc's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519) 749-8467. Parish prayers 8:30 p.m. Sunday. A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Catholic Church, 29 Midland Dr., on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Life Centre.
