Passed peacefully away on March 29, 2014 in his 85th year surrounded by his loving family at the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, Alfred F. Holwell age 85 years. Predeceased by his parents William and Gertrude (Ryan); brothers Gordon, Ron, Mac, Bill, Hal and John; sisters Mary (Haynes) and Gertie (Noel). Leaving to mourn his sad loss, his loving and devoted wife of 65 years Mary (Murphy); four sons Derm, Fred (Cathy), Paul, Glen (Kim); four daughters Jean (John), Judy, Maureen (Gary), Elaine; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; brother Len (Betty); sisters - in - law Dot Holwell and Mary Murphy; brother - in - law Bill Murphy, as well as a large family of nieces, nephews and friends. Pop will be dearly missed by his special buddy Ryan. After a lifetime of work in the construction industry, Alf devoted much of his time to volunteering at St. Teresa's Parish where he made many friends, especially Allan Jones. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit and Dianna Pelley, his Community Health Nurse. And most special thanks to Dr. Paul Skirving for his compassionate care during Alf's illness and to Father Leo English for his constant spiritual guidance. Visitation will be held at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Monday and Tuesday from 12 noon - 9 Funeral Mass will take place from St. Teresa's, Mundy Pond Road on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Belvedere Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul or a charity of one's choice.
