It is with sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Wilson Patterson, 79, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, on April 1, 1935, he was the son of the late John 'Jack' and Mary Brochie (Hunter) Patterson.
Gordon enjoyed his 25 years with the military serving with the Canadian Navy and later the Canadian Air Force as an aircraft technician. He had also worked with the Nova Scotia Police Review Board and for many years was the warden for the county jail in Baddeck until it closed. A community-minded person, he was always willing to lend a hand, Gordon helped build the Ross Ferry Fire Hall as well as served as the first Ross Ferry fire chief.
He is survived by his loving wife Norma Marie (Stroud) Patterson, his son Norman (Ann) Patterson, Sydney, two daughters Bonnie Darlene Patterson, Boularderie, and Jo-Ann Mills (the late Glen), Florida, his grandchildren Nicole, Kevin and Keith Patterson, Halifax, Gordon and Ian Mills, Florida, and his brother John Hunter (Kay) Patterson, British Columbia.
Besides his parents John and Mary, Gordon was predeceased by his siblings Joseph, Robert, Alexander, Angus, Quincy, Allen, his twin George and Neil Patterson and his special sister Mary MacInnis, as well as his son-in-law Glen Alan Mills.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Palliative Care and also Dr. John Ritter for their care of Gordon during this difficult time.
A memorial service for Gordon will be held 2 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Ross Ferry Fire Hall, Ross Ferry.
