Walter "Earl" Ledden

LEDDEN, WALTER JOHN "EARL" – Surrounded by his family the death of Earl Ledden, husband of Geraldine (Jacquard) Ledden occurred at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Earl was born on September 20, 1926 in Saint John. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Army during World War II. Earl held the Maritime Boxing Champion Lightweight title in 1946. After the war, Earl worked as a conductor at Via Rail until his retirement when he and Geraldine enjoyed an active lifestyle together for many years; walking, biking, camping, hunting and their favourite fishing. Besides Geraldine his wife of over 27 years, Earl is survived by his daughter, Jamie Ledden of Saint John, step-children: Alistair Mapp (Carolyn Hagan) of Toronto, ON, Deborah Mapp of Saint John, Darlene Mapp (Bryan Gauthier) of Saint John and grandchildren: Cailin, Tamara, D.J., Justin, Abbey and Caleb; great-grandchildren: Faith, Dylan, Jenson and Dominic and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Ann (Fairweather); second wife, Rita (Fairweather) and brothers: William, Al, Sam and Arthur. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the 6th floor, St. Joseph’s Hospital for their much appreciated service, care and genuine kindness.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visitation on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 3:30 pm. Interment will take place in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at a later date.
