Chisholm Anthony MacLennan

Born: August 24th, 1948

Passed in: New Victoria
Passed on: April 26th, 2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Chisholm MacLennan on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
Chisholm was surrounded by his loving family after his courageous battle with cancer.
Chisholm’s life began on Aug. 24, 1948. He was the youngest child of nine born to Alex Dan and Jessie (MacQuarrie) MacLennan of Inverness.
Chisholm married his beautiful bride Diane Perfect on Feb. 1, 1969. Through their love they created four beautiful children who were the pride of Chisholm’s heart- Nancy, Gail, Colleen and Troy. His family was everything to him and he never missed an opportunity to praise them to anyone who would listen.
Chisholm loved being a grandfather and to the children he was known as Poppy. His playful manner attracted kids to him like a magnet. They each knew they were special when they were given access to his Candy Club! He loved his treats and had many hiding places that only those very privileged knew about.
For 32 years with the very well-known silver lunch can in hand Chisholm would head off to work at Sydney Steel. Diane would tend to the house but getting close to four-o-clock she would always be waiting in the window for him to come home. She was always a dedicated and loyal life partner.
Chisholm loved the sunshine. He anxiously awaited the cold winter months to pass so he could get his garden ready. He spent one last time on his deck with two good friends talking and feeling the warmth of the sun on his beautiful face only days before his passing.
He loved his cars to be immaculate and shining. He often told that this obsession with shiny vehicles stemmed back from when he was a boy. He laughed and said he had the best bike in New Victoria. He bought it with his very own money and waxed it regularly! He took great pride in his home. He had a little piece of heaven in New Victoria. He could easily be found in the garden in back or in the front on his patio swing looking at the ocean. If not at home he would never stray too far. A trip to town and time for good friends, especially at the Army Navy. He loved music too and spent many an evening with Diane having a private Cape Breton Kitchen Party with the old time country music playing.
Chisholm was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to so many. If you were good to him he never forgot it. There are no words to express how deeply our lives will be affected without his presence. We will go on to continue to make him proud and to show him how strong of a family he has created. Neither distance nor death can break what we share.
Until we meet again at heaven’s gates or in our dreams. We will always love him and appreciate everything he has given to us!
Chisholm was predeceased by his parents, his brother Clem and sisters Christina and Betty.
He is survived by his wife Diane (Perfect); daughters, Nancy (Gray) Zurheide, Gail (Jamie) MacNeil, Colleen (Paul) Crane; son, Troy; grandchildren, Courtney, Caitlin, Danielle, Vanessa, Justin, Jessica, Grayce, Fayth, Sharaden, Brooke, Madison and Aiden; sisters, Joan (Wally) Cameron, Dolly Hill; brothers, Toby MacLennan, Manion MacLennan, John R. MacLennan and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Wateford. Funeral mass of celebration will take place Wednesday, April 30 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.
