
Wallace Carleton

Wallace “Wally” Garnet Carleton, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri, SK. Wally was born on September 8, 1925, at Cabri, SK to Garnet & Eva Carleton. He started his schooling in Shackleton and from grade eight to eleven at the Cabri School. He then went to Moose Jaw Technical School where he took welding, motor mechanics and machine shop. In the summer when he was fifteen, his cousin Glenn talked him into joining the Reserve Army. Wally married Susan Joyce Elaine Haney on December 31, 1946, at the Cabri United Church. They were blessed with two boys, Terrance Wallace and Ian Garnet and in 1959, they added two chosen girls, Marilyn who was five and Sharon who was four. Wally bought his Grandpa Fred’s land in 1950 and farmed together with his brother, Doug. Wally spent his winters in the rink, hockey was a vital part of winter activities. He was involved in playing saxophone for various orchestras and bands, something he thoroughly enjoyed and he also formed his own band the “C Notes”. While the kids were growing up, Wally & Joyce were both on the church board. Wally & Joyce enjoyed spending their winters in Mesa, Arizona where he also did a lot of orchestra work.
Wally is survived by his wife, Joyce; his family, Terry (Alice) Carleton, and family, Sherry & Bruce Royer (Kaden, Ethan), Renee & Tom Golem (William, Jonathan): Ian (Wendy) Carleton, and family, Devin & Megan Carleton (Madeline, Gracie), Heather & Dave St. Arnault, Ryley & Kaila Carleton: Sharon & Ron Realini and daughter, Marlana: Marilyn & Jim Endicott and son, Bobby; his brother, Ron (Florene) Carleton; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Garnet & Eva Carleton; his children in infancy, Robert and Joy; and by a brother, Doug Carleton.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the Cabri United Church, Cabri, SK with Marie Barr LPM officiating. The prelude and postlude music was pre-recorded music of Wally on the saxophone. The eulogy was shared by Ian Carleton. The musicians for the service were Don Kennedy, Ernie Moen, Lexi Culham and Bert Culham. The International Club formed the Honor Guard. A private family Interment was held at the Cabri Community Cemetery, Cabri, SK. In memory of Wally Carleton, donations made to the Prairie Health Centre Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family.
