STRUM, Rhoda Ann – 79, Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on August 2, 1934, in Somerset, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late William T. and Dorothy J. (Michie) Barlow. Rhoda had worked as a nursing assistant at the Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville and later for the Aylesford Village Commission for nine years. She was a long-time member of the Kings County Amalgamated School Board and former President of the Kings West P.C. Association. Rhoda was a member of the Aylesford Baptist Church and the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. She was an avid bingo player at the Aylesford & District Lions Hall. Surviving are children, Deborah “Debbie” (Peter) Dufault, New Glasgow; Anna (Barry) Joudrey, Orilla, Ont.; Jocelyn Rippey, Waterville; Bambie Hamilton, Aylesford; Bradley (Marsha) Strum, Bedford; grandchildren, Shelley, Michael, Victoria, Christopher, Jay and Jessilyn; great-grandchildren, Mason, Ashton and Dakota; great-great-grandchildren, Finn, Harrison, Trent, Nathan and Tyler; brother, John Barlow, who has since passed away; sister-in-law, Irene Barlow, Wilmot; sisters, June Coleman, Berwick; Barbara (Edward) Fruend, Delaware; several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Gordon E. Strum; son-in-law, Jim Rippey; grandson, David Hamilton; brother, William T. Jr. “Billy” Barlow; sister, Dorothy Allard; half-sister, Eleanor. There will be no visitation. All are welcome to attend a Graveside Funeral Service for Rhoda will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 29, in the Berwick Cemetery, Main St., Berwick. Rev. Dr. Judith Saunders officiating. A reception and time of celebration will follow at the Berwick & District Volunteer Fire Hall, 300 Commercial St., Berwick, from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Kings Co.
