JEAN BEKETA

JEAN BEKETA

December 17, 1936 ~ May 2, 2014
With extreme sorrow, grief and relief, we wish to share that our sweet Jeanie succumbed to the scourge of cancer at home in Sechelt, BC at the age of 5-over par.
Left to mourn her passing are her loving husband of 57 years, Ed: “No more pain, my love”; sons Dan (Krys) and Richard (Marilyn); grandchildren Steven, Andrea, Jessica, Celia and Kevin; siblings Annie Ward, John Kriss and Mary Matheson; many nieces and nephews; Kathy Rake; the poker girls; and many more friends.
Predeceased by her father Onofrey, mother Nellie, sister Doris, and brothers Bob and Dick, Jean will be lovingly remembered as a kind and giving individual.
Jean Beketa (nee Kryciak) was born in Kamsack, Saskatchewan and moved to Vancouver, BC with her family at an early age. She received her schooling in Vancouver and graduated from Britannia Secondary School in 1955. After working with an insurance company for a couple of years, she knew her forte was marriage and family. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed raising her children and, in later years, doting on her beautiful grandchildren. When her children were older, she was proud to work with her sister Doris Leatherbarrow, who was the owner of René’s Ladies Apparel. She enjoyed curling at the Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) and golfing at the Pitt Meadows golf course.
In 1994, Jean and Ed moved to one of the most beautiful places on earth, Sechelt. Her passion for golf allowed her to meet and establish a friendship with many wonderful people at the Sechelt Golf and Country Club. Her athletic achievements included being on the team that scored an 8-ender at the BWC and aceing the 2nd hole at Sechelt.
Her laughter, smile and spirit will never be forgotten.
Thank you, home care nurses, ACU nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital, and Dr. Wadge and Dr. Robinson for your kind support.
To honour Jean, a celebration of life will be held at 2pm, August 30, 2014 at 6290 Gale Ave N. in Sechelt, BC.
