Mabel Sturge (nee Kean)

August 4, 1921-May 13, 2014 - Mabel Sturge was born in Pound Cove, NL, to Noah and Elizabeth Kean. Mabel and deceased husband, Reg, moved from Wesleyville (New-Wes-Valley) to Mount Pearl in 1970. They were faithful members of The Salvation Army Mount Pearl Corps and Mabel especially enjoyed the fellowship and ministry of the Home League ladies. She also financially supported underprivileged children overseas for many years. Mabel quietly passed away at the Glenbrook Lodge, St. John's, on May 13. Appreciative of her love and care are daughters Louise (Fred) Pelley, Peggy (Tom) Iwama and son, Max (Doreen). Mabel was predeceased by granddaughter, Lisa Tucker three years ago. She is lovingly remembered by grandsons Darrel (Bonita) Pelley, Mark Sturge, Matthew Iwama; granddaughters Sherri (Glenn) Lavender, Carla (Jonathan) Evans, Julia Iwama, Tess (Adam) Peters; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Carrie Hounsel; brother, Albert (Pearl) Kean; and many nephews and nieces. Mabel's family are deeply grateful for the Glenbrook Lodge staff who lovingly cared for her during the past six years. She will be resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. Funeral Service to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from the Salvation Army Citadel, Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl. Interment will take place at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road, St. John's.
