George Forsythe

FORSYTHE, GEORGE ROBERT - 1944-2014 - George Robert Forsythe, 70, of Hillsborough passed away peacefully on May 17, 2014 at the Moncton Hospital with his loving family by his side. George was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton in 1944, the son of the late George G. and Eileen (Coakley) Forsythe. George graduated from Oromocto High in 1963, worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia in several areas for 14 years, last working for T.P. Downey & Sons until his retirement. He was a member of the Hillsborough Baptist Church. George was very community-minded and was serving as a Councilor for the Village of Hillsborough, was a member of the Hillsborough Rec Council, was involved in Minor Hockey and Minor Ball and also supported the Hillsborough Kiwanis. He was currently a member of the Regional Service Commission #7 and was chairman of the Regional Service Commission Planning Review and Adjustment Committee. He was a member of the Albert Liberal Association and was currently serving as Treasurer. In his younger years he played ball and was a pitcher for the Goodwin's Discount Ball Team in Sackville; he was very proud of the fact he pitched a perfect game in PEI and told many stories about those fun times. He was always at the Hillsborough Rink watching and helping with Minor Hockey. George was a dedicated Montréal Canadiens fan and was so happy to see them win this last round, while also rubbing it in a little to his family who were voting for another team. He had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. His main priority in life was his family; he was a very dedicated husband, dad and grampy; they were definitely his everything. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, he adored each of them, and they all were his favourites in their own ways. George will be remembered for his generosity and kindness and for just being there when needed by family, friends or community. "Love is stronger than death and he will be lovingly remembered." He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Sheila (Brooks) Forsythe; daughter, Amanda Rossiter (Greg) of Alma; sons, Frank Forsythe (Cindy) of Riverview, Michael Forsythe (Kimberley) of Riverview and Darren Forsythe (Tanya) of the Glades; his precious grandchildren, Lexie, Matthew, Sarah and Brooklyn; sisters, Barbara Forsythe of Oromocto and Marion Beers of Sackville, NS; brothers, Greg Forsythe (Muriel) of Fredericton, Tom Forsythe (Sandra) of Thunder Bay, ON and Marty Forsythe (Angela) of Burton. He will also be missed by several nieces, nephews and by many friends.
George will be resting at the Hillsborough Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Hillsborough Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 21 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dean MacDonald and Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and friends at the church for further sharing of memories and for refreshments. FAMILY FLOWERS ONLY PLEASE. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory to Hillsborough Minor Hockey, Hillsborough Rec Council or Hillsborough Baptist Church Building Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, E4H-3K2, 734-2780. www.albertcountyfh.com
