It is with sadness that we the family announce the passing of Beryl MacKay, 84, of New Waterford on May 17, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Dan and Marion (MacDonald) Campbell.
Beryl was a member of Calvin United Church, New Waterford. She worked for over 40 years in furniture retail at Schwartz in New Waterford and Sydney, and for Malakets in Ottawa. It truly was her passion and has been said, 'the sales floor was her stage.' Beryl also enjoyed her clothing collection and would spend hours selecting her outfit for the day. She was known for her love of driving cars and felt a great sense of freedom when she got behind the wheel. Beryl will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are daughter, Marion Wynnyk, Coquitlam, B.C.; sons, Norman (Nina), Pitt Meadows, B.C., Dan (Marilyn), North Vancouver, David, Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren, Alex, Sara, Stepjan, Kristina, Robert, Samantha, Dylan, Andrew and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Zakari and Georgia.
Besides her parents, Beryl was predeceased by her husband, John, and a sister, Gloria.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church, New Waterford, with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
