Alice Eileen Bernard, 57, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away peacefully of Lung Cancer, on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born July 6, 1956 in Inverness, she was a daughter of Mary N. (Googoo), Bernard, We’koqma’q and the late Andrew Bernard. Alice was a home caregiver in the community for many years and a member of Holy Trinity Parish, We’koqma’q.
Surviving is her partner, Walter Martin of Millbrook; her daughter, Mimi Bernard of We’koqma’q; son, Wallace 'Wally' Bernard of We’koqma’q; granddaughter, Jayla Bernard; her pet dog, Rocky; sisters, Elizabeth Toney, Annabelle (Bellin) Nicholas, Harriet Nicholas, Josephine Googoo, Lucille Bernard all of We’koqma’q; Sally Cope, Millbrook; brothers, Noel Mike Bernard, Wagmatcook; Harvey (Brenda), Alex Bernard, Jeff Bernard all of We’koqma’q; godchildren, April Johnson, Trent Francis, Jacob Cope; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Molly and Bernice; brother, Matthew; nieces, Sharon and Baby Nova Nicholas; nephews, Roger Cope Jr. and Jonathan Bernard. Visitation will take place (today) Saturday, May 24, 2014, in the Multi-Purpose Building, 160 Reservation Rd., We’koqma’q, after 5 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 26, from Saint Kateri Holy Trinity Parish, We’koqma’q, with Fr. Callistus Abazie officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
