PHILLIP JOHN RICHARDSON

PHILLIP JOHN RICHARDSON

1951 - 2014
Last Thursday we lost Phil Richardson in a sudden accident.  Phil is survived by his mother Mary, brother Stephen, and Nancy Chen, the love of his life.  His passing is also mourned by an island of friends, neighbours and children.
Phil came to Gambier Island with his family in 1954 and began living here full-time in his early 20s. A friend to all, he made the time to stop and visit and help out.  Mentor, uncle, confidante, Phil was also the first on everyone’s emergency contact list.  He was active in the development of the Gambier Island Community Centre as well as the local ANAVETS chapter - PCMR 276. Phil represented all that is best about a small community.
On a personal level, Phil was also a fabulous carver, baker, lover of scotch, prize pumpkin grower and great practical joker.  Phil travelled extensively with friends and with Nancy, including to China and to Croatia, where he recently connected with relatives. He was also content hanging out at his beach with the neighbourhood kids – soaking up paradise.
Phil Richardson, the finest of men, will be terribly missed and greatly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Children’s Hospital.
